Every year in Wayne City, the town celebrates the annual Bean Days events. To begin these activities, on Saturday, September 16, in Wayne City performance gym, the Bean Queen Pageant took place. The next event, Church Night, is held in the First Christian Church in Wayne City on Thursday, September 21. The 5k Color Run was hosted by Wayne City High School, as a prom fundraiser in the school parking lot, and around town, on Friday, September 23, at 6 p.m. In 2022. a new ice cream place, Sweeties opened up here in Wayne City, and it has been such a big hit that now it’s been added to the Bean Days Activities. On September 22, from 7 p.m – 10 p.m. Sweeties hosted a town wide block party.
Saturday, September 22, is a very busy and fun day that everyone has been waiting for throughout the community. Starting off the Tractor Show located at the Wayne City agricultural building parking lot from 7-9 a.m. On Mill Street from 8 a.m – 3 p.m., the vendor and craft fair will take place. A little after the vendor fair begins, the car and truck show starts from 8:30 a.m. – 12 p.m. Held at the Baptist Church from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m., the Quilt Show will display quilted works of art from members of the community.
The most exciting part of the day, the parade, will start at 10 a.m. on Main Street. Right after the parade ham and beans will be served at the Wayne City ag building. From 11 a.m. – 1 p.m., the Wayne City FFA will be hosting a Petting Zoo and Bossy Bingo, on the west side of the school in the grass area. Visitors can go to the east end of Mill Street from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. for face Painting, sno cones, and Shriners bus rides. South of the Wayne City Baptist Church, the Lions Train will run from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. Held at the east end of Mill Street, the kids pedal tractor pull will be from 12 p.m. – 1 p.m. Kids Corner, located at the Baptist Church will be set up from 12 p.m. – 2 p.m. Fred and His Feathered Friends Bird Show will take place in the Community Building at 12 p.m. The Raffle Drawing will be at the Ruritan tent at 2 p.m. In the community building from 3-5 p.m., bingo will take place. Brylynn Wallace said, “Bean Days is my favorite time of the year because it’s a lot of fun and I like to go to all of the shops.” Lastly to end the night hosted by the Wayne City Saddle Club, there will be a Rodeo at 7 p.m. Klaire Stitch said, “I’m really looking forward to the Rodeo this year because it’s fun.”
On Sunday, September 24, hosted by the Wayne City Saddle Club at 12 p.m., the Cowboy Church and Ranch Rodeo will wrap up all of the Bean Days activities. Community members think Bean Days is such a fun time for everyone to get together and meet new people. As soon as the events wrap up, community members wait for the next year for all of the exciting events to begin again.
