During summer break, it was announced that the activity period had been removed from the schedule, making more time for classes, adding four minutes to each class period. Students were confused about why it was removed from their schedule, making it harder for each class to speak to each other to plan activities and fundraisers.
Javen Loker said, “I hate that they removed it. It is harder to plan for basketball meetings, and Beta Club, also for our classes, and how are we supposed to plan for battle of the classes?” He explained it is much rougher to plan for anything with the time that was taken away from the high school students.
Kyia Cone had an activity period at her old school. She agreed with Loker that it was harder for people to have meetings and a place to relax throughout the day. “I think we should have time for our meetings, and quiet time. I think we should bring it back,” said Cone.
Mrs. Griswold, one of the sponsors for the junior class, expressed that it was much more difficult to plan for activities and help students finish their work in the activity period. Griswold said, “I miss the activity period. It gave me a chance to do extra work with my students and see kids normally I do not get to see since I am a class sponsor.”
