Bean days is a traditional part of Wayne City. This event draws friends and family together for all the main events and the community does their part. The first event of Bean Days is Bean Queen September 21. This event gives all the girls time to shine and compete for the crown of Miss Bean Queen. Winner Katelyn Catron said, “It was a super fun night and I was honored to be crowned Miss Bean Queen.”
Wayne City’s 5K October 4 foam run is an event for people to push their limit where kids and adults compete whether it be just for fun or test their speed. Chase Smith said his strategy will be to “Sprint off the start and keep a steady pace till the end.”
Sweeties will host a block party on October 4 after the 5K for everyone to come to Sweeties to enjoy music, people, and ice cream. They have a DJ playing music and a cakewalk for anyone to compete for a sweet treat.
September 28 the Wayne City community is entering their quilts to be voted on with many to choose from with their inspired designs. Avery Barnard said, “This past school year I made two quilts, a baby quilt that was chicken themed. I also made one with some of my Legg Up production shirts and competed at the Illinois State Beta Club Convention.
Wayne City’s biggest event is the Bean Day parade September 28. Community members enter floats, tractors, animals, and cars. Parade goers catch candy thrown out by parade entrants. Clubs and other associations raise money for various causes including the FFA sweet tea booth. The booth helps club members earn money to attend state and national convention.
