Whether you are running or walking, going to the 5k is a big thing in Wayne City. Every year during the Bean Days season, there is a town-wide 5k. Many people young and old, fast and slow enter in to the event. Some people are doing it to win, and others are doing it just to walk with their friends. The event was put on as a fundraiser for prom and many members of our high school signed up to work it. Sam Braddock, Sophomore, stated, “I really enjoyed working the 5k and enjoyed hanging out with my friends while I was working it.” Many of the High School Men’s Basketball players ran the 5k to get in better shape for the upcoming season. It is also a good opportunity to get ready for conditioning. Junior, James Walker shared, “The 5k was a great experience, it was a really great time. It was tons of fun and I really just ran it for the conditioning.” Many other players also ran it for some extra conditioning. But not only athletes run in it. Anyone from younger kids to older adults run in it every year. Something different about this year’s 5k was that in previous years they threw different colors on the runners, but this year, instead of the colors, the race organizers threw foam on people. This year, the 5k was postponed by a week due to weather, it rained for almost the entire week previous because of a hurricane that was taking place in Florida and spread heavy rain across the eastern half of the United States.
