Wayne City High School hired Officer Jeff Taylor to be the school’s new resource officer. This is Wayne City’s first year with a resource officer. Many students and staff believe Officer Taylor has been making an impact in the school. High school teacher Mrs. Griswold said, “I see him trying to make very good relationships with students and gaining respect from students. Having officer Taylor here gives our students a positive role model in the sheriff’s department.” She always hoped we would get a resource officer and is happy that it has finally happened.
Many students said they feel much safer knowing that officer Taylor is on campus. Sophomore Ava Shaw said, “Yes, 100% I feel safer with Officer Taylor around. He is intimidating but he makes us feel safe. While being serious he is also very laid back and easy going.” Many other students have mentioned how they feel a lot more comfortable and safe at school with officer Taylor around.
Officer Taylor did not plan on working in a school setting when he was first in the force. Taylor stated, “When I started in the workforce as a cop, a school resource officer was not a position yet.” Officer Taylor also talked about how he enjoys working with the students and wants to make an impact. “I want to show students that cops are human, not just ticket-writing robots.” He really wants the students to see the human side of officers. Officer Taylor suggests the following advice when it comes to stressing about certain things in life, “It is what it is and some things you cannot change.” Students and staff alike are excited that Wayne City has Officer Taylor.
