Friday, October 1, 2024, the annual Bean Days Sweeties Block Party took place. Starting at 7 pm, many citizens of Wayne City came together to support Sweeties owner, Rhonda Willet, at her ice cream shop. The block party consisted of a DJ, games across the street at First Christian Church, and fun memories. Willet stated, “I LOVE how a simple ice cream shop brings everyone together… everyone of all ages… that was my goal when building sweeties!”
As Willet said, Sweeties brings the whole community together, especially at the events that take place there. Many local teenagers have found work there, many children meet there for fun, and adults love going there to converse with Willet and the workers as well.
Senior Rainey Loker is a very hard worker at Sweeties as well. Loker stated, “The Sweeties party was so much fun to work. We were so busy we didn’t see the end of the line until right before we closed, but I think everyone outside enjoyed their night, and hopefully their ice cream too.”
Sweeties was PACKED with everyone from the community. There was not a moment of silence to be heard. People lined the streets dancing and singing with the DJ, and so many people were playing games. Senior Kallee Seymour said, “I enjoyed working the block party and being able to see a good majority of the town all together just talking and eating ice cream.”
Obviously, Sweeties is very loved in the Wayne City community. No matter what age or what size, there’s something for everyone at Sweeties. Willet makes sure she is always providing for the community, one block party at a time.
