As the school year draws to a close, the countdown is officially on. With fewer than 30 instructional days remaining, seniors find themselves experiencing a mix of emotions. For many, the anticipation of graduation brings feelings of excitement, marking the high point of years of hard work, friendships, and personal growth. They eagerly look forward to prom, senior trips, and the long-awaited ceremony that will celebrate their achievements. Klaire Stitch said, “I am excited to finish high school because I am ready to move on to college and stop waking up at 7 am.”
However, alongside the excitement, there is also a sense of nervousness. The transition from high school to the next chapter—whether it be college, trade school, military service, or entering the workforce—can feel overwhelming. Questions about the future, career choices, and newfound independence weigh on their minds. The realization that high school, a place of comfort and familiarity, is coming to an end adds to the mix of emotions. Rainy Loker said, “I am ready to be done with high school but at the same time its very bitter sweet. I am going to miss seeing my friends everyday, playing sports, and the relationships I have made throughout.”
Many seniors already know what they are doing for their next step and are beginning to find it difficult to keep putting forth the same amount of effort that they have up until now. Kylee Moore said, “I’m obviously going to keep my grades up but I’m already accepted into college and my high school work feels so frustrating and pointless right about now.”
