On Saturday, March 29, the Wayne City High School held its annual prom. The prom began with doors opening at 5:45 for the public. The crowd was in awe with this year’s “Midnight Masquerade” theme. Journalism Advisor, Kelli Keen, said, “The gym was transformed into a beautiful setting for prom. Everyone had such a great time which made chaperoning easy.”
The prom started with the attendees walk through. The students got to show off their fun prom styles. Next, the prom coronation started. The prom court walked through, starting with freshman court members, Milly Talbert, Anistyn White, Cole Tucker, and Ben Thomason. Then, sophomore court, Ava Shaw, Rylie Backes, Kayne Gregory, and Marschell Mays. Next, the juniors, Kenzie Seidel, Alayna White, Dawson Wood, and James Walker. Finally, the senior prom court.
The senior prom court attendees, Kenna Anselment, Rainy Loker, MaKalyn Gregory, Kylee Moore, Haley Shelton, Pierce Bryan, Evan Atkinson, Joel Beehn, Jacob Thomason, and Case Greenwalt walked in. Now, we have our King and Queen revealed. MaKalyn Gregory and Pierce Bryan won. Gregory said, “I was honored to be chosen by my classmates for prom court. I was not expecting to win, but it was such an exciting moment for my senior year. I am looking forward to attending prom next year and crowning the new queen.”
After this the students ate the provided meal, and then the real fun began. Many students considered this year the best prom they have ever had. The DJ played more relevant music that all kids and chaperones knew, many kids danced with their friends, and there was many bonding moments at this prom. The students in Mr. Choates Dual Credit American History class even did the Charleston for extra credit. Junior, Kenzie Seidel said, “The Dj was way better this year. Me and my friends all had fun dancing the whole time. We especially had fun dancing with Anthony.”
Although the weather was not the best, it is safe to say that the 2025 Wayne City Prom was a hit! It was a last for some, and a first for some, but it was fun for all.
