Friday, September 6 the Wayne City High School Prom Committee led by Sponsor, Angie Kelly, will host the annual 5k color run at 6 p.m. The event will begin in the Wayne City High School west parking lot and will advance 3.2 miles through the city streets. Runners who register and pay the $20 entrance fee in advance will receive a free shirt to wear in the race. This event kicks off Bean Days weekend and helps raise money to benefit Wayne City High School prom.
Entries can run or walk, and everyone who participates in the race can bring their own flashlights. The event usually draws 100 or more runners each year and organizers of the event invite everyone to join. Students who volunteer to help keep track of runners’ times and throw multiple colors at the runners. Volunteer Kaylee Bullard said, “I help because the money goes towards our prom and I think it is fun to help out.” Abbie Young said, “I really look forward to helping at the 5k by taking pictures for the yearbook and journalism class.” After the race, the top male and female runner win the a medal and $100 each.
