As shown by the teachers’ vote, September Senior of the Month, Avery Barnard, stands out not only for her achievements, but for her hard work as well. Whether it is in the classroom, the cheer floor, or around the school, staff members claim Barnard shows leadership, dedication, and a positive attitude.
Each month, the teachers vote on who they believe showed the best academic standing, extracurricular involvement, dedication, cooperation, and community participation. This month, Barnard showed just that. High School Principal, Stephen Ellis, said, “Avery Barnard is an exceptional student who not only excels in the classroom but is very involved in clubs and organizations.”
From participating in Band, FFA, Apologetix, Enrichment, Beta Club, History Club, Turning Point USA, Art Club, 4-H, Tumbling/Cheer, to being involved in her church, Barnard stays active in multiple ways. Senior class Sponsor, Mary Griswold said, “Avery is very active in the senior class. She is our senior class Treasurer and participates in all of our fundraisers. We can always count on her to bring delicious treats to our bake sale and use her creativity for our Battle of the Classes planning.”
As her senior year goes on, Barnard is making future plans. She plans to go to Rend Lake college to get an associates degree in visual communications. As she is going to college, she plans to continue coaching at the Tumble Barn, where she currently teaches, tumbles, and cheers. After earning her degree and graduating college, she will take over the Tumble Barn as the owner. Barnard said, “I was surprised I got Senior of the Month. I am so thankful for the teachers that voted for me.”
