2017 Conrad Allen Tournament: Mid-Week Report

Kyle Sledge

Back to back games, blowouts, and overtimes, it’s nothing but excitement at this year’s Conrad Allen Tournament!  This 2017 tournament brought in many tough, experienced teams leaving a very hard question of who will win first place this year.  The previous year’s champions were the Patoka Warriors, where this year they aren’t in the tournament at all.  This eliminates any team wanting to defend last year’s title from this year’s tournament.

The teams in the tournament are split into two pools.  In pool 1, the teams are Cisne, Gallatin County, North Clay, and Webber.  In pool 2, the teams are Wayne City, Crab Orchard, Red Hill, and Grayville.  After the first day of games on Saturday, Webber beat Cisne, Gallatin County beat North Clay, Red Hill beat Crab Orchard, and Wayne City beat Grayville.  Monday, the second day of the tournament, played out three games, with Crab Orchard over Grayville, Gallatin County over Cisne, and Webber over North Clay.  The third day of games, Wednesday, showed Red Hill winning over Grayville, Webber beating Gallatin County, and Wayne City taking the win over Crab Orchard.  This currently puts Webber at the top of pool 1 going 3-0.  Cisne plays North Clay on Friday to finish the games in Pool A.  Red Hill and Wayne City at currently tied for the top of pool 2 at 2-0, and they are to play each other on Friday to finish the games in Pool B.

To end the 2017 Conrad Allen Tournament, there will be four games played on Saturday.  The first starting at 3:00p.m. for the 7th place game and the following games will for 5th place, 3rd place, and 1st place.  These games will almost certainly have high intensity, down to the wire play, and some could even have a surprising outcome.  Players stay healthy, fans stay warm, and have a happy holiday!
