Basketball Wrap Up
March 11, 2019
The Wayne City High School boys basketball team did an exceptional job this year. They ended the year with a winning season of 18 wins and 12 losses. They fought hard for every win and their opponents had to earn every point they scored. Wayne City’s high school boys basketball will be returning three starters next year for their 2019-2020 season and several other players. The seniors Dane Horton and Kyle Sledge are the only outgoing players this year. Coach’s Jim Corona, Jake Talbert, and Chad Dickey enjoyed their season coaching and intend to return next year. The boys ended their season in a regional semifinal game against the Thompsonville Tigers with a score of 42-28.
Senior Kyle Sledge and freshman Taj McKinney advanced in the three-point contest. Taj made 10 out of his 15 shots and Kyle had 9 out of 15. Wayne City High School also had two more boys from the team shooting in the contest that did not move on, juniors Travis Dickey (with a score of 7 out of 15) and Andrew White (4 out of 15). Kyle and Taj moved on to the semifinal and both were eliminated. Kyle with 3 for 15 shots and Taj with 8 of 15.
