How to change a tire

Jarrett Lewis, Reporter

Knowing how to change a tire is a necessary skill for all drivers. If relying on a cell phone to save oneself in a roadside emergency, there’s always that chance to forget to charge it, be out of range, or leave it at home. Flat tires can happen anywhere, and a cell phone is no substitute for knowing how to change a flat tire. Items needed in changing a tire are a jack, lug wrench, fully inflated spare tire, and the vehicle owner’s manual. The first step in changing the tire is finding the owners manual and reading it to find out where all of the items are located on your vehicle. Then after finding the items, place the jack under the car’s axle and jack the car up to where the tire that is flat or defective is up off of the ground. Use the lug wrench to take the flat or defective tire off the car, put the spare tire on, tighten the lug nuts back up, and lower the jack until all 4 tires on the car are back on the ground. Last, put all of the items used for changing your tire back in their designated places, and your car is ready to be back on the road driving to your previous destination.
