Regionals for high school boys basketball start Saturday February 18 at the Conrad Allen Gymnasium at Wayne City High School. If the team wins the first game versus Elverado, they will play the winner of the Christopher and New Athens game at New Athens. They played New Athens earlier in the season as their first game of the year in the Christopher tournament. The score was 52-50, with Wayne City taking the victory. “Regionals is what you prepare for all season. We have a great opportunity to do something special,” said Coach Jake Talbert. The current record for the team is 22-7 going into senior night where the team faces Murphysboro. The Indians are ranked ninth in the 1A state rankings, the highest ranked team in their regional. Last season in regionals, the Wayne City High School boys basketball team lost in the second round to Edwards County. “We have had a great season we have worked hard to get the unanimous 1 seed and we have a great chance to win it this season,” said Senior Jonny Durham.
