Recently, administrators at Wayne City High School have decided students are not to leave the classroom during instructional time and there must be a male teacher in the boys’ restroom during all passing periods. These changes mean students must use the restroom, get a snack from one of the many food fundraisers throughout the school, and gather materials for class within two minutes. This has upset students and teachers alike, but the changes are needed for order within the school.
Cecilia Choate said, “I have a medical condition that causes me to be unable to hold my urine, which makes it difficult for me to make it on time for class when the line for the restroom is so long.”
Although it makes the passing periods more stressful for the students, there is a reason behind the new rules.
“As not only a faculty member at Wayne City High School, but also a proud graduate who remembers the old school, I am in agreement with the bathroom rules. We have a state of the art facility that is only seven or eight years old. Our students, particularly the underclassmen, need to learn how to properly respect our building, our facilities, and our equipment. The graphic artwork was a step too far,” said English Teacher, Athletic Director, and Basketball Coach Mr. Jake Talbert.
These rules are an important step towards keeping the school nice and clean. Many people feel the rules are a nuance to the students, but they will be appreciated in the future when the school is just as nice as it is now.
