The Wayne City High School varsity basketball team finished the season with a record of 7-24 but the freshmen/sophomore team has only lost 2 of 4. The Junior Varsity had a winning record of 8-7 and 6-2 in the conference. The junior varsity coach gave a bit of advice on things to work on and get better for next season. Sophomore Evan Keen said, “Coach wants us to improve on setting up plays, free throws and rebounding, defense, hustle, and shot selection. I believe that I have improved from the first game in the free throw category and on the defensive end as well. We just need to improve slightly to be where we want to be next year.” Junior James Walker ended the season with 997 total high school career points. He hopes to be hitting the 1000 mark the first game of the next season, which is possible with just 3 more points. In a dramatic turn of events Walker missed his last chance to get 1000 points as a junior by passing it up to Jax Scarbrough. The final score against the Silver Stallions was 56-45. The last time the Indians played against the Silver Stallions was the 2023 year 52-30. Will Braddock, a senior, enjoyed his last game on Monday February 24. “Although it was sad playing our last game together as a team, I’ve really enjoyed playing with my teammates and coaches. I’ve made tons of new friends and also have made tons of memories from basketball. Even though we may not have had the season we wanted, I have made tons of memories this year and had a lot of fun with this team.”
