On Saturday, September 21, the Wayne City High School boys basketball team sought to raise money by organizing a car wash fundraiser from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. in the parking lot of the First Christian Church in Wayne City. The team decided to fundraise with the goal of raising money for new warm ups and travel gear. However, that was not the only thing they gained from the fundraiser. Although they had a very successful fundraiser, they also created memories that they will last for a lifetime. High School senior and member of the basketball team, Will Braddock said, “Nothing like some good suds with some even better buds,” showing that the basketball team has great team chemistry. The team felt the fundraiser acted as more than just a car wash, but also as a time to bond with teammates as well.
WCHS Head basketball coach Jake Talbert said, “The car wash was a great opportunity to raise money for our travel suits and to meet members of our community. It also allowed our basketball players to work together and make an efficient system to clean the cars sufficiently and concisely.” This particular fundraiser was not only about the basketball team raising money, but about doing something nice for the community as well. Customer Donnie Braddock said, “I was hesitant to let a bunch of teenagers wash my truck, but I got it back without any scratches.” Overall, it was a great experience for the basketball players and the coaching staff. The customers also loved to support the basketball team. The team earned over $800 for the season.
