Last school year, Mrs. Kelli Keen and Mr. Eric Lingafelter started a fun way to reward kids to come to school each week. They came up with a reward called, “Spin for Cash”. As the funding will no longer be available next year, the school is currently looking for new ways to fund this program. Every Monday, Mrs. Keen draws two names out of the students who attended all five days of school the week before. There are two students chosen by random number generator each week. They are separated into upper and lower classmen. Once selected, these kids will come down to the office, spin the wheel, and claim their money. On the wheel, there are eight numbers. The higher the number a student spins, the more money he or she receives.
“Spin for Cash motivates students to come to school and has increased the percentage of students attending each year. It is fun to see students excited about the program, and it is nice to hear them ask when we are spinning. They seem genuinely excited each week to see if they are the winner,” said Keen.
The pot varies every week. The highest number on the wheel this year has been $53. This week’s winners included Lily Barbre and Evan Keen. Barbre won $12 and Keen won $6.
“Spin for Cash is very fun and gives me a reason to go to school. I love getting rewarded for my good behavior and good attendance,” stated Barbre.
Spin for cash motivates and gives a lot of students an excuse to attend school. Spin for cash has increased every day attendance in students. Most students feel that “Spin for Cash” is super beneficial in the school, and they students hope to keep it going for many years to come.
