The Battle of the Classes is a high school activity in which classes compete for the highest score. Each group first creates a runout as an introduction to their class. During their introductions, they select a song and create choreography. The highschoolers choose a theme for each class. Juniors have chosen neon for their runout theme this year. They choose a class t-shirt with freshmen wearing white, sophomores red, juniors black, and seniors getting to choose their color.
The day also includes athletic games, and students sign up to compete. There are video games, an art competition, and a talent show. Some high schoolers are more vocal about joining battle of the classes. Others would rather stay in the background try not to be in the spotlight and get embarrassed if their class loses.
Class sponsors are a big part of Battle of the Classes. Each class has two sponsors. They make sure everything is ordered on time and that the students are happy with what they are doing or planning. “As a class sponsor, preparing for Battle of the Classes can be very stressful. However, seeing the smiles and hearing the laughter of the students on the day of Battle of the Classes makes it all worthwhile,” said Staci Mays, one of the sophomore sponsors. “I’m excited since its my first time sponsoring the freshmen and it’s also exciting to see the Battle of the Classes for the first time,” said Jenna Talbert, a freshmen class sponsor.
