Thanksgiving is coming up and friends and family are all making plans to gather together to celebrate this national holiday and give thanks. Many people have traditions. Some families go out to eat, some go shopping, but here at Wayne City School students are celebrating a meal together.
The Thanksgiving meal provided by the Wayne City High School cafeteria served roasted turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes and gravy, cranberry sauce, and chocolate cake.
Cafeteria worker Rachel Bailey said, “I like seeing the kids enjoy the meal, especially the kids who don’t get a traditional Thanksgiving meal. It takes about 140 pounds of turkey to feed the school, and it takes a month to prepare. It is also the most popular lunch count of the year. This is my eighteenth year of making a Thanksgiving meal.”
Grade school secretary Amy Wilson said, “Everybody was excited for it and the hallways were filled with students. There were 317 students in total” who ate the meal this year.
The Wayne city FFA also hosted a thanksgiving meal on November 19. Randy Mason made turkey and ham. The FFA members provided sides like dressing, corn, mashed potatoes, green beans, hashbrown casserole, cranberry salad, and various desserts. Sponsor Mrs. Ehrhart said, “The FFA planned a meal together as a chapter. It gives us a chance to fellowship as a family and share our blessings we’ve had over the past year, as well as the year ahead.”
