November 4, an important date to anyone involved in Wayne City Basketball, was the day that the first official practice was held for the men’s basketball team. Each member of the team has been preparing for months for the upcoming season. Doing anything from getting up and down the court at the park, to doing one-on-one workouts. It takes a great amount of hard work and dedication from each individual, not just the players, but the coaches too. Sophomore Landis Musgrave stated, “I think that we will have a good team this year with all of the hard work we have put in.” Not only do the players have to put in hard work in the off-season, but they need to work even more during the season.
With the team’s practices starting, many players have seen much improvement in each other. Senior Ryan Strader stated, “I have seen a lot of good things coming together with the team, I think defensively we are there but with two weeks till our game we have a lot to work with the offense but I believe we will be solid this year.” Not only the players have seen good things, but also the coaches have as well. Assistant Coach Chad Dickey said, “Basketball season is my favorite time of year. It is always exciting when it starts. I think we have a good group this year. We are a young group, so there will be growing pains, but I think we have a real chance to do something special.” The team has been and will continue to keep working hard in preparation for their upcoming season.
