Thursday January 27, the freshman and sophomores of the Wayne City High School basketball team brought 10 players to the Flora High School gymnasium. The Wayne City Indians ended the game triumphant against the Flora Wolves 40-44. One of the Wayne City players got a double foul during the game. Crayten Burge posted up during the game when the player behind him pushed him. “I was in the middle of a 40 set for our basketball team. I posted up a player in hopes of making a basket for our team, and I felt a push to my back. I disregarded it the first time, but as the situation persisted, I retaliated because it was making me angry. This action earned a team foul for both of us.”
Kayne Gregory was a very big contributor in the game with multiple assists. Both Burge and Gregory were very excited for their freshman/sophomore win.
“It was a very fun game to participate in. Going into the game, I had it in my mind that I was going to pass more to set my teammates up. With this being my sophomore year, I only have one more year of freshman/sophomore left. I have to make it count when I can. It was very worth it performing then going to Julian’s after the game too.”
Upper classmen also joined the junior varsity squad on the bus to support the boys in their game. They also joined in hopes of feasting at Julien’s, a local eatery known for its old-fashioned style and inexpensive food options. The owners kept the restaurant open to accommodate the students after the late game.
