On February 20 the basketball team recognized the seniors for senior night. On senior night, the seniors that are active in basketball, cheer, and band all come to the middle of the court with their parents. High School Secretary and Basketball Mom Kathy Braddock said,” Senior Night is a fun night to celebrate the senior boy basketball players, cheer leaders, and band members. It is also a little bit sad for the parents watching their children do what they love for the last time. This year, there were four basketball players, five cheerleaders, and two band members. They were all called out and given a rose that many people gave to one of their parents. After they recognized all of the seniors, then a group picture was taken and then the game began. The Wayne City Indians played the NCOE Fighting Cardinals in the J. Conrad Allen Gymnasium. This was the senior’s last game on their home floor. Senior Basketball player Ryan Strader said,”I am for sure going to miss playing with my teammates and making memories. I have had a lot of fun playing basketball with Cory Nguyen for the last few years.” The Indians were defeated in a tight game, 59-55. Although the score seems very close, not the entire game was. At one point in the game the Indians were down by 26. NCOE got off to a hot start in the beginning of the game, putting the Indians down by double digits early. In the second half, the Indians outscored the Cardinals in both quarters. The Indians are making the trip to NCOE on February 21 to play their Senior Night because their original game against Carrier Mills was cancelled due to inclement weather conditions. On February 24, the Indians ended the season after they travelled to Centralia to play Christ Our Rock Lutheran High School in the first round of regionals.
