School Board Survival Plan

Dawson Barnard

The current school board consisting of Karen Haile, Joe Coy, Clinton Lane, Kirk Barnard, Ashley Musgrave, and Mike Ehrhart definitely had decisions to make with the Illinois State Education funding currently in limbo.  At the August 17 Wayne City School Board meeting, which began at 6:00 p.m., the board adopted a resolution authorizing the transfer of no more than $425,000 from the Working Cash Fund to the Education Fund.  This move allows the school to stay open and function as normal while state negotiations progress.

A motion was made and approved appointing Teresa White as a Wayne City CUSD #100 board member.  She replaces Finis White, who recently stepped down, to fulfill his term.

Many new faculty members were hired in the Wayne City school district.  Jeff Morris was hired as the high school special education instructor and head men’s basketball coach.  The school board also hired Matt Griswold as the assistant volleyball coach.  The early childhood teacher is now Kimberly Tennyson.  Drew Millwood was hired as the head men’s baseball coach and athletic director.  The new early childhood secretary is Kerri Brown, and Patricia Johnson was hired as the new early childhood teacher’s aide.  All new staff members received all aye votes from the school board.

The School Board approved a tentative budget for the 2018 fiscal year.  This budget was based on assumptions that state funding will be approved once negotiations are finalized.  A schoolwide Title I plan for the 2017-2018 school year was accepted.

In accordance with board policy 2:220-E2, the school board went into executive session for 20 minutes.  After leaving executive session, the meeting adjourned at 7:58 p.m.
