The announcements are a daily thing here at Wayne City High School. They keep students up to date on school clubs and class meetings. People may not think about the person behind the intercom who provides the school with all of the information students and staff need on a day to day basis. This year, the voice behind the announcements is Nate Barbee, a junior at Wayne City High School. He enjoys playing basketball and baseball for the Wayne City Indians. He started speaking on the intercom last year, when he did the Pledge of Allegiance.

When asked, “Why do you do the announcements?” Nate replied, “I enjoy speaking a lot. I always thought it was cool to be an announcer and now I’m living the dream I had as a kid!” When asked “What do you not like about doing the announcements?” He laughed and said “Getting made fun of by all the guys.” He also stated, “My favorite thing about doing the announcements is getting out of Mrs. Miller’s class early to go prepare, and it looks good on college applications.” What teenager wouldn’t like to get out of class early?

Nate’s least favorite thing to talk about is FCCLA. “I have to say FCCLA too many times,” he claimed. His favorite thing to talk about is information that pertains to him which includes most school clubs, sports, and anything related to getting out of school. FFA is his favorite thing to announce, partly because “Mrs. Erhart doesn’t give him ten liners to read off.” Plus, he mentioned it is information in which he is most active.

When asked what his day to day responsibilities were, Nate replied, “Mrs. Noatch prints out the paper for me and I glance through to see if any new information has been added.” Nate also discussed that a good quality for reading the announcements is to have a good reading voice. When asked who Nate would trust to do this job if he is sick he said, “Marshall White.” He also aspires to pass this job to Jayla Pendleton when he graduates.
