Jennifer Noatch: Unsung Hero

Hannah Huston

Being a high school secretary may seem like an easy job, but if someone were to ask WCHS secretary Jennifer Noatch she would probably laugh in their face. Being the secretary comes with many different jobs including everything from school attendance to handling most of the school’s money.

With the attendance, she has to call a parent when a student is absent. While dealing with report cards, she has to print them out each quarter and also send home reports every four and a half weeks to let parents know how they are doing.

She has to deal with other things like scheduling, buses, and the school website. Her job with scheduling includes activity period meetings, parent teacher conferences and getting substitutes for absent teachers. She has to keep track of substitute bus drivers and keep up with the bus trip schedule calendar. The website is updated and maintained along with the school calendar being updated on her watch. Mrs. Noatch is also responsible for uploading the daily announcements onto the website and keeping the school Facebook page updated.

Money is a big part of her job also. Mrs. Noatch has to count and deposit all club and sports’ money, keep accurate records of all accounts, send monthly reports, and prepare the money boxes for events. When asked what Jennifer liked most about her job she said, “I enjoy doing all the small things so teachers and students have a better experience at school. Plus, I get the whole summer off!” When she was asked her least favorite thing about her job she replied, “The annoying bell for opening the doors. You only need to push the button once!”

Though this may seem like an easy job, it is clearly not. A lot comes with being a high school secretary. Jennifer deserves more credit and respect for what she does, as the school wouldn’t run without her.
