Teacher Feature: Mrs. Beehn

Allison Green, Writer

This is Mrs. Beehn’s first year here at Wayne City High School. Mrs. Beehn has taught at Fairfield community high school for 14 years and now has gradually transitioned to Wayne City High School. “There are much smaller classes here and I am more able to work with my students one on one,” Mrs. Beehn says. When asked why she’s now teaching here, she replied, “I live here, my kids go to school here, and I wanted to invest in my own community.”

She has always knew that she wanted to work with kids, and she has always loved literature so she adds, “The two went together.” Mrs. Beehn majored in English education and got her bachelor’s degree at University of Southern Indiana and later got her masters degree at McKendree University.

Her advice to future teachers is, “The job is much more political than what you think, you’re more inclined to teach what the state wants rather than what you would like to, and it’s also much harder to get parents involved. There are so many obligations outside of the classroom, kids are much more busy now than they used to be.”

Overall, Mrs. Beehn loves teaching at WCHS!
