Start a New Tradition

Is Christmas really Christmas without traditions?  Every family has traditions that they could never stray from.  This is one of the things that makes Christmas season one of the happiest times of the year.  Sadly, it also makes it one of the most depressing times of the year.

Christmas traditions vary from family to family.  Gracie McCormick said her favorite tradition was, “Getting to stay home with my family and play Nertz.”  Senior Alison Green said, “I really like going to my Grandpa’s house and laughing at my cousin Eric’s jokes, even though he likes to pick on me.”

There’s a recurring theme here.  Many who are excited about Christmas keeps saying they have things to do with family.  But what about the people who don’t have a family to spend it with?  Or those who don’t have the best home life?  Many people don’t like Christmas or even chose not to celebrate because they don’t have anyone to be with.

Seeing everyone with their family and happy can be a real damper on life for some people.  That’s why the holiday season has one of the highest suicide rates through the year.  That doesn’t mean those who do have a reason for the season shouldn’t celebrate.  But the world may be a little better if everyone decided to show a little love to others, especially this time of year.  Often when someone goes out of the way to make someone else’s day they end up making themselves even happier.  So start a new tradition, and show some love to others this Christmas.
