BTS, also known as Bangtan Boys or Bulletproof Boy Scouts, is a septet group formed by Big Hit Entertainment. Debuting on June 13, 2013 with their title song No More Dream from their album 2 Cool 4 Skool, they immediately took off. They won many new artists of the year awards for their debut. As of now they have won a total of 100 awards and have been nominated for 121. This year alone they have already won the Grand prize at the Seoul Music Awards along with the Bonsang Award.

Initially the group had a rap/hip hop theme. After their No More Dream era they moved on into a more hip hop theme, which is evident in their songs DNA,and GOGO. They’ve kept this mostly hip hop theme into 2018, occasionally having r&b and rap being prominent in some songs.

Within the group there is a “hyung” line and a “maknae” line. Hyung in Korean simply means older brother, and Maknae means “the youngest sibling”. There are four in the Hyung line, Kim Seokjin (Jin), Min Yoongi (Suga), Jung Hoseok (J Hope), and Kim Namjoon (Rap Monster). These four are seen as the older siblings of the group and are usually respected by the younger members. The Maknae line consists of Park Jimin (Jimin), Kim Taehyung (V), and Jeon Jungkook (Jungkook).

BTS is very active with their fans, who they call the ARMY. They constantly tweet back at them and throw special concerts for them, including the heart performance of GOGO. “They were revealed to be the most tweeted about celebrity in 2017, being “liked or retweeted over half a billion times (502 million)” worldwide, more than U.S. President Donald Trump and Justin Bieber combined.”1
