Seniors Make Washington D.C. Great Again

Excitement filled the hallways on Friday, April 6 as Seniors planned to pack their bags after school for their upcoming weekend in Washington D.C.  Suitcases were filled to the brim with clothes, snacks, and everything American flag patterned. They were excited to visit an area of the United States that a lot of them had never explored before, but most of the students were dreading the 11-hour drive to the District of Columbia. Students met at the school at 4 p.m. Friday night to get their bags checked and load the charter bus. Thankfully for the 27 passengers, they got a whole charter bus to themselves. They traveled all the way to Fairfield, Illinois and waited for the other two schools to get loaded and then they were on their way to Washington D.C. The drive there was rough for some students. Morgan Schumm ended up getting motion sickness and upchucked in the bus bathroom. Morgan said, “The drive was nothing less than miserable. I get car sick frequently and being on a large bus for so long just made it worse.” Despite the rough drive, that ended up lasting close to 18 hours, the seniors finally set foot on Washington D.C. soil.

The seniors spent the next three days exploring everything D.C. had to offer. They went to the Smithsonian Museum, Lincoln Memorial, Washington Monument, Arlington Cemetery, Holocaust Museum,  9/11 Memorial, the White House, and the Capital. Shayla Miller was asked what her favorite part of the trip and she said, “I really like the 9/11 Memorial. It was so fascinating and unique. The way the benches symbolized the victims was breathtaking.”

Overall, the senior trip was a very memorable one. Students enjoyed seeing things they would only normally see in movies or on TV. “Washington D.C. is such an amazing place to be, I absolutely recommend taking a trip there. It is totally worth it!” said Abby Bowsher.
