Softball/Baseball Update

Grace McCormick

Swinging for the fences, the Wayne City High School softball and baseball teams have started off their seasons!  Although the April showers canceled almost three weeks of games for the teams, they continued to remain positive and work hard at practice.  New coaches were hired for both teams this season. The new coach and athletic director, Drew Millwood, has taken charge of the boy’s baseball team. Assisting him is new assistant, Landon Thomas and returning assistant, Jason Miller.  The softball team’s new head coach is Ashley Loker. The assistant coach is Sara Scott.

The baseball team’s record so far is 5-6.  They have taken wins at Webber, Cisne, Sandoval, Grayville, Odin, and Christ our Rock Lutheran School.  The starting pitcher is Jaxon King and the catcher is Dane Horton. The infielders are Jarrett Lewis at first base, Kent Miller at second, Nate Barbee at shortstop, and Austin Scott as the third baseman. Outfielders are Christopher Clark in right field, Cole Clark taking center, and Hayden Gire in left.  The alternatives are Colt Henson, Brennan Stewart, Kamden Pottorff, Mathew Barbie, Enrico Carbonetti, Chaoyi, Jaxson Youngblood, and Austin Schuester. Home run hitters this season consist of Cole Clark, Dane Horton, Austin Scott, and Jaxon King.

The softball team has only played five games this season, Clay City, Galatia, Webber, Odin, and Hamilton County. Their record is 0-6 so far.  They lost the Odin game by one because of a bad call in the last inning. Starting pitchers are Grace McCormick and Meghan Anderson. When one is pitching the other plays center field. The current catcher is Avery Seidel. The infield for the Lady Indians, are Hanah Cooper on first base, Maddie Caudel as second baseman, Sydney Greenwalt playing shortstop, and Lucy Smith on third. The outfield consists of left fielder, Savana Guilmot and right fielders Jenny Nurod and Margot Lennonier.

As baseball and softball seasons start to come to an end, seniors will play their last games as high school students.  Come out and cheer on your Indians and Lady Indians before it ends!
