Sandra Roesch: Everyone Favorite Second Grade Teacher

Shauna Roesch

Picture this. You’re in second grade again and you are sitting in your chair excitedly waiting to share the big night you had with the class. The teacher finally asks the class if they have any stories to share, and you shoot your hand into the air. That was what Wayne City Grade School teacher Mrs. Sandra Roesch did every morning with her class. She liked to teach through stories, and that’s exactly what she did by allowing her students to share theirs.

She taught from 1965 to 1995 and loved watching every minute of her students reaching their full potential. If Mrs. Roesch could have done anything else as a profession she said she would have gone into the medical field, but her love of children and learning brought her to becoming the beloved teacher she was for 30 years before retiring. After her years of teaching ended, she took up a new traveling hobby and says it’s her favorite thing about retirement. Sandra claimed her biggest success she had as a teacher was “…watching the kids become adults, set examples, and become assets to the community.”

To prove that not only she enjoyed teaching but her students enjoyed her class as well, Sandra wrapped up the interview by saying, “It’s so satisfying when former students come up and tell you stories they remember from being in your class.” The one thing she hopped her students left her class knowing was that learning can be fun. The fact that her students remember stories from their second grade year proves she got her point across.

As for any other student who was not taught by Mrs. Roesch, her advice to them is to not give up and keep an open mind during the school year.
