Teacher Feature: Mrs. Ehrhart

Isaac Loker, Farmer

Jennifer Sue Ehrhart, the Ag teacher at Wayne City High School, grew up on a farm in Macedonia, IL, and went to school at Benton Consolidated High School. She spent her time as a kid riding three wheelers and horses and helping on the family farm.  She started her teaching career as a special education teacher, and her first job was right here at Wayne City Grade School. She says the reason she became a special education teacher was because her daughter was in special education, and she saw the difference these teachers made in their life. She knew she wanted to help kids the same way her daughters teachers did.  She began to help with the Wayne City chapter of the Future Farmers of America (FFA) in 2013 because Mr. Scott, who was the club sponsor at the time, had a tough schedule sometimes which wouldn’t work out. She offered to help out, and take the FFA kids to some events. After doing this for a while, she became the Wayne City FFA’s co-advisor, along with Mr. Scott. In the spring of 2018, after a decline in Mr. Scott’s health, Mrs. Ehrhart became the full time Ag teacher at WCHS.  When asked if she ever planned on going back, she said “I’ll be in Agriculture until I retire.” When asked to share her favorite Ag story or memory, she said she had too many favorite stories to mention. Her favorite thing about teaching Ag is watching kids grow and watch them grow a love for agriculture in four years. When asked for a piece of advice, she said, “Always do your best, and take responsibility for all of your actions.”
