According to Fox News, eating elderberries while you have the flu may be the cure. The researchers from the University of Sydney studied the berries.  They learned “phytochemicals compounds that positively affect health, from elderberries combat influenza infections,” The compounds within the berries is what was found to be fighting off these horrible symptoms of the flu.  These berries are a deep, dark purple color. They were proved to be toxic if they were not thoroughly cooked. According to Healthline they have “potent direct antiviral effect against the flu virus.” The “common elderberry inhibits the early stages of an infection by blocking key viral proteins responsible for both the viral and entry into the host cells,” claims Golnoosh Torabian, a study author. Researchers created a “juice serum” out of the berries. The serum is then applied to the cells “before, during and after they had been infected with the influenza virus,” the university said. Researchers claimed that the elderberry serum helped put an end to the virus infecting other cells. The berries “were even more effective at inhibiting viral propagation at later stages of the influenza cycle when the cells had already been infected with the virus,” the researchers said.
