Legg Up Productions from Wayne City, Illinois traveled to Destin, Florida for Mark of Excellence Nationals on July 16-July 19. The first of the studio’s routines to perform were small groups‒a routine containing nine or less dancers‒ranging from average age 5 to 16. The next day, July 18, the large group and lines competed. Legg Up Productions brought 19 routines to compete and came home with seven 1st Place trophies and three choreography and special judges’ awards. Eleven of the nineteen groups were asked to re-compete for a more prestigious award in the Live Finals. A musical theatre group titled “Ay Caramba” won the overall highest scoring routine for the Mark of the Future division. Legg Up has group routines in contemporary, jazz, hip hop, open, and musical theatre styles. The dancers and families enjoyed beach time as well as the dance time. Legg Up participated in four regional competitions throughout February to April 2019 in the St. Louis area. Leading up to nationals, dancers had six weeks of summer classes to prepare and perfect the routines. After nationals, the girls get a six week break of classes to enjoy the rest of their summer until fall classes and a new season begins on September 3rd.
