PBIS: New Friendships

Lillian Borah

Friday, October 4, 2019, Wayne city High School had a day of games and lunch together as one community. Ms.Smith broke everyone into groups and the groups later broke into smaller groups. The students were mixed into groups that made them step out of their comfort zone and their normal friend groups. Ms. Smith dividing students into groups so the kids could make new and everlasting friendships that they might have not previously had. There were a variety of different activities that each group participated in. The series of events that took place that day inckuded the following: making tik toks, a fashion show, an egg drop, a marshmallow tower competition, a state trooper speaking about distracted driving, and Kim Belangee came to talk to us about the dangers of vaping/juuling. When asked about what her favorite event as junior, Lillian Borah, said, “The fashion show because we all completed as a something together as a whole group.” The point of the PBIS kick off was to build friendships in high school that the students can carry out through college and all of adult life and that’s what they did! Walking around during this event, students could see kids laughing and enjoying themselves. PBIS was such a success, some groups even ate lunch together! During the last hour and a half of the day, the students had an event that they signed up for such as: watching movies, playing board games, reading, and baking. Those were events in which they just relaxed and chatted together. It was a nice day thanks to Ms.Smith!
