A Taste of Broadway

Delainey Bailey, Reporter

Students have received the amazing opportunity to attend the Broadway Musical, Hamilton, at the Fox Theatre on May 13, 2020. Mrs. Fagan wrote a grant through the Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History for students to experience Hamilton. Tickets cost anywhere from $250 to over $1,000 and sell out in minutes, but through this wonderful grant, students only had to pay $10! Students from Mr. Choate’s American History, World History, and Western Civilization classes were invited to attend. To attend the trip, students will have a short assignment, submit questions for a Q&A session with the cast, and fill out a survey after the performance. Some students will have to work together to submit a video.

The Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History works with the producers of Hamilton on the Hamilton Education program. Title I high schools are invited to learn about Alexander Hamilton in the classroom and then watch the musical. The mission of the program is to improve the teaching and learning of American History. Through the Rockefeller Foundation, participating students only have to pay a “Hamilton,” a ten dollar bill. Mrs. Fagan has organized this trip and made it possible for Wayne City students to attend and participate.
