The academic sports season is here and the Wayne City High School Scholar Bowl team is buzzing into action. By doing an hour long practice once a week, the team is preparing themselves for a brain workout. Some of the players even do extra studying in their free time. There are many subjects and categories that the questions cover, so having each player study a different subject really increases their chances of getting the questions correct. Senior Liam Smith states, “I was born to be a fart smella, but I’m forced to be a smart fella.”
The players work really hard during practices. They work so hard that they start getting incredibly competitive with each other. Although, sometimes they can get a little distracted. Sometimes the questions will get a little boring, so the players can get a little restless. Making jokes and roughhousing with one another can get a little out of hand once the boredom takes over. Junior Kane Borah says, “I may be a smartie, but I’m not sweet like the candy when it comes to Scholar Bowl.”
The upcoming match will be on October 17 against Waltonville and Woodlawn at Waltonville. The three W’s will be competing against each other in a rotation to see who will win the W. If community members would like to come to the games to watch, the support would be appreciated.
Coach Mrs.Fagan said, “I look forward to the season this year. I’m confident that we’ll do well and I’m excited for the fun times ahead.”
