Aces

Aces

It is finally this time of year again when students are recommended by their teachers to compete in the Aces competition. Aces is a program for students who are academically on top, and the students go to Rend Lake College and compete in tests. Aces is filled with a variety of tests from all categories including: Biology, Chemistry, Comp Science, Engineering Graphics, English, Math, and Physics. This program is only offered to juniors and seniors.

Juniors who attended this year included Kenna Anselment, Joel Beehn, Kane Borah, Kylee Moore, Klaire Stich, and Jacob Thomason. Seniors who attended were Cecilia Choate, Alexis Greene, Andre Maguet, Tanner McNeil, Alexander Moore, Liam Smith, and Zoe Wiggins. These students attended Red Lake College February 7. Junior Kylee Moore, who tested in English and Math, said, “Going to Aces was a great experience. I got to compete in two different tests and play Nertz while I wasn’t testing (which was probably the best part).” Kylee Moore also placed third in English, along with four other participants who are moving up to sectionals March 13. Anselment placed second in math, Smith placed first in math and physics, and Stich and Maguet placed second in physics. Senior Wiggins said, “I took tests in biology and English. I knew nothing about biology, but felt pretty confident about the English. More than anything, I had fun talking to people from other schools and playing Nertz at lunch.” Both juniors and seniors had a blast with Aces, and junior students are looking forward to it next year.
