The freshman and sophomore students on the Wayne City High School Scholar Bowl team participated in the Midland Trail Conference Freshmen Sophomore Tournament on January 13. The students practiced for months leading up to the MTC. Alayna White said, ” Scholar Bowl is such a fun extracurricular activity. I am thankful that Mrs. Fagan puts in countless hours to get our team ready for each and every meet.” The team was coached by Mrs. Fagan. She worked and helped the students learn more and be able to advance. Mrs. Fagan said, “I absolutely love scholar bowl. It is such a challenge because you never know what will be asked and the students have to have a wide array of knowledge. I am proud of the kids for getting second place. They always represent Wayne City well.”
The team competed in three different matches. Wayne City defeated two different teams. Then they advanced to go against Cisne for first or second place. The students put up a good fight and they came home with a second place trophy to show for that. Mrs. Schuster was the JV coach for Scholar bowl. One specific student on the team earned the position of the top scorer for Wayne City. This student was sophomore Caylan Piper. Piper scored 26 tossups at MTC. Piper said, “ I enjoyed winning and getting victory suppers after the matches is probably my favorite. Being top scorer made me feel accomplished but also nerdy. My favorite thing I have learned is that possums are prehensile.”
