On Tuesday, January 21, the Wayne City Indians basketball team traveled to Woodlawn High School to play the first game of the MTC Tournament. After already having played in two tournaments, and having many games, the boys knew what they needed to do to hopefully secure a win. After a close game, the boys lost the game to the Warriors.
The boys then played Wednesday night at Webber High School, against the Cisne Runnin’ Lions, with the cheerleading squad being judged as well. “I am grateful to have a squad who will work hard for the win. No matter what the outcome is, we always know we tried our best,” said sophomore cheerleader, Ellie Talbert. Similar to the basketball team, the girls had competed in two tournaments, as well as having many games to make themself competition ready. The girls had already secured a first place win at the Conrad-Allen Tournament, so they also knew how to secure a placement in the competition.
The cheerleaders perfected their performance with little error, and the basketball team secured a win with their determination, overcoming the Lions with a win and placing the team in the Saturday Consolation game.
The team played Saturday morning at Webber High School, against the Red Hill Salukis. The team had just been against Red Hill in a conference game, so they were familiar with the plays they would perform. Unfortunately, the Wayne City Indians lost to the Salukis. “We had a good run but we will be back stronger next year,” said Junior, Jax Scarbrough. After this match, the cheer award was announced, with the cheerleaders taking third place.
