On December 9, Wayne City High School’s FCCLA put on a cookie decorating activity at the Community Building prior to the start of the community’s Christmas parade. Children could take a picture with Santa and Mrs. Clause then go over and create a delicious work of art. FCCLA has done this for multiple years to see the kids express their passions through sprinkles and icing.
FCCLA’s annual event brings joy to the kids in the warmth of the building for as long as they wish to warm up before the parade. The evening gives FCCLA members a chance to work with young children and earn volunteer hours.
“We had another successful year of cookie decorating with the little kids as they waited to visit Santa. It is always a chaotic time with the Holiday Tournament & parade but the FCCLA members came through and made the cookie decorating possible. FCCLA loves working with kids and parents in the community. The kids were very creative this year, and we had some very unique cookies,” stated FCCLA sponsor Laura Miller.
FCCLA buys a whole bunch of cookies already made. They spend hours making the icing during seventh period the week before the event and also after school. JoAnna Leonardi said, “I always enjoy helping the kids and getting to eat the leftover cookies afterwards.” The members enjoy their time they spend with the children. Zoe Wiggins said, “I always love cookie decorating. It is so much fun interacting with the kids and seeing how excited they get to decorate their own cookie.” Attendees and all involved had a great time and worked hard to make it a fun and amazing night.
