Wayne City High School FCCLA sponsors an American Red Cross Blood Drive every year and has been a sponsor for over 15 years. This year’s blood drive was located in the performance gym, on the campus of Wayne City High School. The Blood Drive is a very popular and important event. Students and volunteers within the community come and donate. This year’s blood drive was very affected by a blood drive that happened two weeks before, but they were able to collect 14 pints in total from donors.
Members of the FCCLA help and work through the whole day with the American Red Cross, giving snacks to volunteers, sitting with donors to make sure they are okay, checking people in with registration, and giving any information needed about donating. The members of FCCLA put in a great amount of work for the Blood Drive, and some members even donated! “I love seeing the kids wanting to give and even when they are scared, they want to help others!” said FCCLA advisor Laura Miller.
The American Red Cross is a non-profit humanitarian organization that helps provide assistance to people who are in need of emergency situations or blood services. Wayne City High School is a very big supporter of the American Red Cross as best as they can. FCCLA member Katelyn Catron says, “I liked helping at the blood drive because it’s an important community service project and it helps those in need.”
