Senior Dawson Wood was selected as January’s Senior of the Month from a group of eight students. The award recognizes students who demonstrate hard work, dedication and responsibility in the classroom and throughout the school. Wayne City High School teachers voted to select Wood for the honor.
Wood balances strong academic performance with active involvement in school activities. He has played on the Wayne City High School baseball team for all four years and is a member of History Club, Beta Club, Pep Club and Fellowship of Christian Athletes.
Wood said receiving the award was meaningful to him. “I really appreciate being named Senior of the Month because it shows that my fellow students and teachers are proud of me,” Wood said.
Teachers say Wood serves as a positive role model for younger students through his attitude and participation both in the classroom and on the field.
Looking ahead after graduation, Wood plans to attend Rend Lake College to pursue a degree in education, with the goal of becoming a high school history teacher. Math teacher Staci Mays said, “Dawson is a fantastic student who has great character. He is well liked by both teachers and peers.”
