Before prom comes around, each high school class votes on students who they want to honor their class for prom court. The freshmen, sophomores, and juniors each vote for two girls and two boys. The seniors vote for five girls and five boys as prom king and queen candidates, which are then voted by all of the high school to then be announced on prom night. The candidates are introduced in pairs, with one girl and one boy walking side by side.
The freshmen candidates are Lydia Griswold, Ava Lewis, Rhett Staley, and Crew Tucker. The sophomore candidates are Anistyn White, Isabella Jones, Cole Tucker, and Ben Thomason. Junior Candidates are Ava Shaw, Peyton Dirks, Anthony Leonardi, Connor Gerrish. The senior girl candidates are Alayna White, Emma Griswold, Kenzie Seidel, Abigail Lane, Katelyn Catron. The senior boys candidates are Javen Loker, Dutch Peyton, James Walker, Dawson Wood, and Bryson Caudle.
“I am excited for prom and honored to be a part of prom court for my last year of high school,” Catron said.
Prom court brings students together and adds a sense of tradition and ceremony. It becomes a special highlight of the night that adds to the suspense before they announce who the next prom king and queen will be. Being on prom court is a special moment for students who get the opportunity to be a part of the special ceremony.
Retiring queen, MaKalyn Gregory, was a class of 2025 graduate. Soon, she will be passing down the crown to the next queen. She is excited to see who will continue the tradition next.
“Being named prom queen was a special moment I won’t forget. It reminds me of all of the memories, friendships, and experiences that made high school unforgettable. I’m beyond thankful for everyone who made this moment so meaningful,” Gregory said.
