On Sunday, October 26, the Wayne City Matters held their annual Halloween Festival. The festival included a Trunk-or-Treat, costume judging, food venders, and school clubs providing games. The rainy night started at 4 p.m. and ended at 6 p.m., leaving many people soaked.
The night started with costume judging inside the Wayne City Christian Church. Groups, singles, and duos/trios could participate for a cash prize. The awards given out include scariest, most original, sweetest, and best superhero/movie character.
Next, the Trunk-or-Treat took place in the parking lot. People gathered under tents to hand out candy to the community. Car judging took place while the Trunk or Treat began. The Wayne City High School Cheerleading Squad won second place with their Care Bears costume and car decorations. The Wayne City Art Club won third with their Alice in Wonderland costumes and decorations. Cheerleading Squad senior, Abigail Young said, “I think that the Care Bears costume was such a cute idea. I really enjoyed getting to hand out candy to all of the kids, and even giving some to the parents.”
While the Trunk-or-Treat went on, Wayne City High School Beta Club provided games inside of the church. They had tic-tac-toe, cup pong, and ghost bowling. The members challenged the kids to these games, and if the trunk-or-treaters won, they got tickets to earn a prize. Beta Club member, Mandolin Mooney said, “I had a lot of fun getting to play tic-tac-toe with the kids that came through. Seeing the costumes and how excited they were for candy brought me so happy. I also loved getting to dress up as Strawberry Shortcake and getting so many compliments on my costume!”
