On Tuesday, Oct. 21, the Wayne County CEO class visited Radiac Abrasives in Salem. The factory manufactures grinding wheels, cut-off wheels, diamond grit tools and other industrial products.
“It was exciting,” said Landis Musgrave, a junior. “I did not know it was that complicated to make these items, and I liked how all of the employees were so friendly and joked around with each other.”
During the visit, the CEO students learned about the company’s products, operations and history in the industry. They also discussed how profits are managed and how different events have affected the company’s growth.
After a group discussion, the students toured the factory.
“I thought it was cool to see what my dad does every day at work,” said Evan Keen, a junior, who was given the tour by his father, Randy Keen, the Director of Quality for the company.
During the tour, students observed each step of the manufacturing process and learned how the company now uses electronic systems to track production — a process that used to be done manually.
Overall, the Wayne County CEO group found the visit both educational and inspiring, gaining a better understanding of how much detail goes into manufacturing beyond simple assembly.
