Beta Club Convention is an event high school students look forward to year-round. Illinois Beta Club convention will take place March 7-8 in Springfield, Illinois. This convention is held because it “creates an environment where members from diverse backgrounds can cheer each other on as they compete against other clubs from across the state,” according to www.betaclub.org.
Forty-eight students from Wayne City High School plan to attend and compete throughout Beta Club convention. Various individual competitions are being held, and they can involve the following subjects: agriculture, biomedical health science, photography, creative writing, art, jewelry, language arts, math, poetry, science, social studies, Spanish, spelling, speech, woodworking, etc.. Team competitions such as apparel design, book battle, club trading pin, engineering, and quiz bowl will also be open to Beta Club members.
Beta Club convention has its benefits other than trophies; it creates opportunities to meet new people, create friendships, learn new skills, and enjoy great food. JoAnna Leonardi, competing in Creative writing, Digitally Enhanced Photography, Apparel Design, and Book Battle, shares, “I am mostly excited to go to the cafe near our hotel. It has the best bagels I have ever eaten!” Kylee Moore, competing in Performing Arts Solo, also shares, “Getting to meet new people at Beta Club convention is one of my favorite parts.”
So many excited students roam the halls and talk about the opportunities given at the Illinois Beta Club convention. Most will advise others to join Beta Club, for the benefits are endless, and missing something as exciting as convention is not worth it.
