Wayne City is honored to have volleyball coach Mr. Choate win the MTC coach of the year award. “It is such a nice award, so I felt good about it. There are some great coaches at the MTC so it was humbling in a way,” Mr. Choate stated.
The volleyball team members are proud of their coach along with the whole school who get the honor of seeing Mr. Choate get an award he greatly deserved after 23 years of coaching and only one year left to go.
Along with Mr. Choate, senior volleyball player Kyia Cone won Player of the Year. “This award was a goal I had set for myself at the beginning of the year, I was super excited, and had a dance party when I found out I had won the award,” Cone stated. Kyia has played volleyball for the last seven years. She thanks her mom for helping her through her volleyball career. She is also grateful for her volleyball role model, Mr. Choate. “I was so thankful for my award. I wouldn’t have got it by myself so thank you to my coaches and my entire team. I couldn’t have done it without them.”
The volleyball team and the school are all so proud of Kyia. Fellow player and junior Abi Lane said, “I think they both deserved and earned the award they were given, and I couldn’t be happier or prouder of them.”
