Buzzers. Papers. Pencils. These are all things that people on the Scholar Bowl team will be seeing a lot of in the upcoming months. The Wayne City High School Scholar Bowl team has had two matches so far this season. The first one was on October 21 at Sandoval with Waltonville and on November 7 they had a match at Webber with Grayville.
Their next match will be on November 18 at Cisne with Odin. The scholar bowl varsity team is 3-1 and the junior varsity is 2-0. Each match follows a tri-match system where they play two matches each out of three matches total. The varsity team has a total of 5 players on the team and junior varsity has 15 players in total; those 15 players from the junior varsity alternate sitting in varsity based on their scores in their matches. The graduating seniors of the class of 2025 on the scholar bowl team include Joel Beehn and Kane Borah. They hope to beat their rival team Cisne. The scholar bowl team as a whole hopes to make it farther this year in competition. Senior Joel Beehn stated, “We’ve taken a big hit in losing the help of last year’s seniors such as Liam Smith, AJ Moore, and Andre Maguet, but Cisne has also lost some of their key players as well. I would love to beat Cisne as well as win a regional this year so that we can avenge last season.”
Not only do the players have high hopes, Coach Jessica Fagan also hopes for the best. “I feel that we can do really well in tournaments and bring home some hardware as well as keep our strong record from last year,” said Fagan. We wish them luck in this upcoming season.
